1798 Transparency Print

Outside of a Castle by Edward Orme

This type of image is known as a transparency print.  It is dated June 1798 and is by Edward Orme, an English artist/printmaker.  Part of a collection of recently acquired Flower Family documents, the print was possibly brought from England by Anthony Flower in 1817.  Usually black and white to illustrate night scenes, coloured sections allow light to come through the paper and create a 3-dimensional effect.  While we haven’t found it yet, odds are Anthony Flower used this transparency print as a model for one of his paintings.
